Post Installation Reminder

Watch our video below for helpful tips on how to efficiently ventilate your garage after your garage carpet has been installed. Also, our reminders about what you can & can't do in your garage during the 48 hour period after installation.

Is there anything I need to do right away once the garage carpet has been installed?

During the 48 hours following your installation, we recommend ventilating your garage as much as possible to allow the adhesive vapour to dissipate. Cross ventilation is the most effective way to allow the odour to dissipate quickly. To create cross ventilation, simply close any internal doors & place a rolled up towel at the base of the doors. Leave the main garage door open along with any external side doors and/or windows. If there are limited external openings in your garage, we recommend using a fan to create cross ventilation. Please note: If your garage is located directly underneath the house, the residual odour from the adhesive may seep up into the house and linger slightly longer than usual.

When can I put my things back in my garage after the garage carpet has been installed?

You can walk on the garage carpet right away however we recommend waiting 24 hours before placing any heavy garage items (such as fridge/freezer, gym equipment, work benches etc) back into the garage. If you are unsure about what you can and can't place back on the garage carpet please do not hesitate to chat to our installer on the day of installation.

When can I park my car in my garage again after the garage carpet has been installed?

It is important that you wait a minimum of 48 hours before driving your car on to the garage carpet. This allows the glue to set fully without the carpet fibres being permanently compressed by the car tyres. Even after waiting this 48 hour period, you may still see indentations on the garage carpet from the car tyres. Vehicle weights, depths of tyre treads, the way the car is driven in and out of the garage & the frequency of how often it is used are all factors to be considered. The main factor however, that can make indentations more visible, is lighting. If the garage is well lit (lots of lights or windows), then the indentations can be more visible than in a garage that is not so well lit. The latter is the case for most garages. It is also important to note that carpets that have a solid colour base with little or no fleck (i.e Kiwi, Greywacke, Sandstone) are much less forgiving in regards to hiding indentations.  The indentations that you may see on the garage carpet, are no different to indentations you see in your household carpet from furniture and other heavy items sitting on it. If they bother you, you can brush them out at any time by using a blunt object (such as the handle of a butter knife).

What is the best way to park my car or drive on my newly laid garage carpet?

Garage carpet is designed to be driven on and around 99% of garages are designed to be driven straight in and out of. If your garage is such that you cannot drive straight in and out of it, then the best option is to reverse into the garage in a way that the car does not require straightening up, or if it must be straightened up, then the vehicle must be moving before the wheels are turned. The reason for this is that there is no grade of garage carpet that will withstand moving the steering wheel on the carpet while the car is stationary. If we bear in mind that the average car is 1.5-2 tonne; this great deal of weight on a very small surface area when the wheels move while the car is stationary.
