Why don't we extend our garage carpet outside of the garage door or over the front edge of the concrete?

While there are many similarities between garages, they all differ slightly in regards to the finish of the concrete at the front garage door. Some garages have a smaller rebate than others, some no rebate at all.

However, none of this makes any difference to our installation process as we always finish our carpet and edging so that they sit inside the garage door. I.e If you are standing outside the garage with the door down, you will see no carpet or edging protruding under the door.

Why don't we extend our garage carpet and edgings outside of the garage door?

Our garage carpet is waterproof and will not rot or smell when wet; however if the carpet extends outside of the garage door, when it rains or if your driveway is prone to flooding, the carpet becomes wet. The carpet then acts like a wick and the moisture/water is drawn into the garage and makes a larger area of carpet wet. While our garage carpet is fine to be wet, most people do not want soaking wet garage carpet inside their garage.

Why don't we fold our garage carpet over the front edge of the concrete to hide the concrete edge?
When garage carpet is folded over the concrete edge with no edging to protect the carpet, over time with regular use the carpet will wear thin and expose the concrete below.
We believe that having no garage carpet or edging showing outside of the garage door looks much more aesthetically pleasing, but also functionally it is the best solution as your garage carpet remains dry and your garage carpet edge is safely secured from heavy vehicle use.
